Key Family Law Issues in Texas
Adoption: I am proud to assist families with entering and completing the adoption process. Adopting a child into your family is a major and deeply personal decision. To ensure that your process is streamlined and valid, you need to work with an attorney.
Annulment: Having a marriage annulled in Texas requires the representation of a trusted attorney. Annulment means that a judge determines that the marriage was null and void. Unlike a divorce, an annulled marriage is considered to have never have taken place.
Asset and Debt Division: One of the most stressful situations for couples entering into divorce is determining who will get what property. At my firm, I can advocate for you at every stage of the legal process to make sure that all property, assets, and debt are fairly distributed between the divorcing parties.
Child Custody: If minor children are involved in your divorce, you will need to determine child custody prior to the completion of your divorce decree. Child custody can be a sensitive subject, and the custodial parent will most likely have to share visitation time with the non-custodial parent.
Child Support: In the event of a divorce in which minor children are involved, child custody and child support will both be addressed. Child support will be determined based off a few factors and can often be required to be paid through the child's 18th birthday, sometimes longer.
Divorce: In the state of Texas, couples can file for divorce if they have been residing within the state for at least a 6-month period and if one of the spouses has resided within the county where they are filing for at least 90 days. There are seven different grounds for divorce, and I can help you determine the most appropriate reason for you to cite in your petition for divorce.
Domestic Violence: Domestic violence can greatly change the course of your divorce case. If you are a victim of domestic violence and wish to file for divorce from your batterer, it is important that you protect yourself and your family by working with an attorney as soon as possible.
